Shocking photo...

Okay, so maybe the photo isn't that shocking to those who have seen a pregnant lady before (or have been pregnant yourself) but I am shocked that my body can stretch like this! 28 weeks and 3 days (this was taken on Sunday) along and my belly will somehow continue to stretch father than this... crazy!

The baby (or Baby Girl Ellis as Garet says we should call her because she isn't just any baby, she is Baby Girl Ellis) is moving a lot more these days. It's not just kicks, it's full on pressure to the sides and front of my stomach. I don't notice it as much during work, but any other time it is undeniably noticeable and can be seen from across a small room. It's nice that Garet can see her moving more too, but honestly, we both agree it is kind of creepy. Don't get me wrong... I believe that God intended this to be a blessing and it ultimately really is when we get the most beautiful baby out of the process, but sometimes it is more like an alien from a horrible sci-fi movie in my belly. haha.

With the help of some loving, generous, and deal-seeking parents we have a bunch of the things we need for the baby. It feels good to know that the baby has a lot of things she needs already so her worry-wart mother can rest easy (but not sleep much). We also have done a little bit of garage sale-ing ourselves. I am pretty sure that this baby will never feel unprovided for because of the extended family and friends she already has... maybe it's kind of like a following she has... haha.

Picking out a name is sooo hard. Maybe we should have had two so we would only have to narrow it down to two names. Just kidding... we are happy to not be having twins for sure! While we aren't sharing the names that we may choose with anyone else, you're always welcome to suggest names... just don't get offended when we don't respond whether we like it or not... we have got to keep something a secret, you already know the baby is a girl! Garet and I spend a lot of time adding to our list of possible names and taking others off... a lot of it is over text as names will just come to us while we are off doing our own thing.

Baby is still healthy as far as we know. Next doctor's appointment is tomorrow afternoon so we'll confirm it then I guess. By how much she moves though I would say she is healthy and active. More blood tests confirmed that I am doing well too. That gestational diabetes test was a little too much for a pregnant lady almost in her 3rd trimester... I am getting A LOT of heartburn and acid reflux and downing a liquid similar to Mountain Dew syrup led to an upset yummy and esophagus. I'm not sleeping so well mostly because of the acid reflux, but also going to bathroom way more than I'd like and the baby's movements keep me up. I am trying a lot of the suggested meds and other suggestions and have made it a goal of mine to perfect the best way to deal with it. Garet's not sleeping well either...probably because of my acid reflux too... and by that I mean by squirming and sleeplessness keeps him up too.

Garet is back in classes for the summer (he should get on here and tell a quick story about his trip, which was a good experience for him from what I hear) and is working a whole bunch now so we don't have to worry as much about money (medical bills stink... and these are just a bunch of little ones) so we'll see what the actual birth brings about... ugh.

I am very much looking forward to our trip to Michigan at the end of June! Not only will I enjoy the time off of work (I have only had 5 days total off of work since New Years, which includes the three holidays we got off) but I am excited to be around family and friends and share with them being able to feel the baby move and such. Just pray for us as we take the car ride to Michigan... It doubt it will be very comfortable and we'll be stopping frequently I'm sure. I hope that we can pack as much fun into the trip as possible, but not too much that it isn't relaxing. Honestly, I don't think anything thrown at me in Michigan will be as tiring or stressful as work though so as long as I'm away from there I will be a happy girl (don't get me wrong, there are a lot of redeeming qualities about work, but my  work-field has a high percentage of burn-out so I have to take advantage of all the breaks possible... it is just considered self-care in my field).

Clothes of course have been sorted through again to put away things that don't fit. While I have already been blessed with some maternity clothes and dresses, I have also been lucky to find a few more deals at Target and am loving Goodwill in Belleville (the city I work in). All maternity tops at Goodwill are $3.99 or less and many of them still have tags on them (and are ironically from the collection at Target). I'm especially attracted to the ones that will stretch with my belly until the end now!

We are excited to move to Clayton and save some money on rent each month this summer! Although we aren't moving in til after the 20th of July, I am mostly excited because after our trip to Michigan we'll have things to set up the baby room (or as much as will fit in the Sonata). As for now, we will continue working hard and taking care of ourselves and the baby waiting for vacation.

As always... comments and statements of love are welcome.

  1. I do have to say, Bethany, that your tummy has grown quite a bit! I feel like mine doesn't look as big as it feels, but that is because my chest is growing right along with my belly! I wish I was going to be around to help with your baby's room and see her when she arrives, but I will try to read up on your blog once in a while. I agree with not telling anyone the name...our boy has a name and Dan and I will call him that, but the rest of the world has to wait until his arrival! Blessings to you!
