Life has been busy. We went to Michigan for a trip that didn't last long enough. We got to celebrate with Garet's sister as she got married and then went to a Detroit Tiger's game with us (and the whole Ellis clan) a few days later. We made a sign to announce that we brought our baby too... inutero... but she was there! We got a certificate saying that it was her first Tiger's game with her name on it... so there is some Tiger's employee that knows our baby's name. She and an artist who is a member of our congregation down here are the only ones who know the name (outside of us of course).
I had the pleasure of attending Erin St. Bernard's (Now Wagner) reception... I even got there before they did... which isn't good I guess because they had a little mishap that ended them up in the ER and the groom showed up on crutches a bit later. Erin was gorgeous... more gorgeous than I could have imagined. I'm not sure if it was the pregnancy hormones or what, but I was kind of teary eyed just seeing her in a wedding dress... I hid it well though. It was so much fun getting to see my friends and getting to show off my baby belly. I couldn't figure out how to make baby girl Ellis move upon command though... it took awhile for some of friends to finally feel her moving around.
The rest of the trip was full of catching up with friends and family and exploring all of the baby items that my mom and the rest of the family had collected for us. My mom had a full room of baby stuff that my dad was ready to get rid of... he is surprised by all the things that a baby needs. My mom and aunts threw me a baby shower with lots of pink and yummy food! This of course also included lots of adorable baby stuff... lots of cute girly stuff in particular. More adorable baby clothes and needed supplies were waiting for us at Garet's parents' house too, which made our car extremely full for the ride home (we had to leave stuff in Michigan too to be brought later). The car ride was horrible though... not only were we leaving Michigan, but I couldn't get comfortable enough to even fall asleep for 5 minutes. I noted to never do a long car ride again so late in the pregnancy.
Being off of work was wonderful. I went back on a Friday so it was the shortest work week ever... good choice on my part. My client's were unbelievably calm while I was gone so I was thankful to come back to no extra chaos (there is always a little bit of chaos somewhere there). I am starting to prepare for going off on Maternity leave now... it's a good feeling.
I decided to look forward to my birthday (Thursday) to get through the next week. The case management team went out for lunch on Wednesday together... it's wonderful to get to talk to the team about life and not just clients and work. Thursday (my birthday), Garet took me out to the Central West End (fancy restaurants, condos we can't afford). It took me a while to decide where to eat (I am sooo indecisive lately doing even grocery shopping is rough), but we ended up at the Drunken Fish (sushi). Best decision in a long while. Had sweet potato fries that were so sweet and tasty I have never had fries like that before! The sushi was the best I've ever had... and I like to try sushi a lot of places over the last few years. The best part was getting to just sit and talk with Garet though... no tv's like at bars and he made a conscious effort to give me his whole attention.
We moved to a new apartment this weekend. It's only about a mile and a half away from our old apartment, but it's better for us (and our budget). It's in Clayton (very nice town we thought we could never afford) in a small neighborhood. It is bigger and cheaper (I think I stated that before in a blog), which gives us more space for the baby and guests! We have tried to get as much as we can put away, but we are both exhausted from moving and cleaning the other apartment to get our deposit back. Garet has been the biggest trooper ever through it all because I am limited to the work that I can do so he does the work of more than one person!!! I kind of pushed it this weekend and am more exhausted than ever... I fall asleep if I lay down anywhere. We are glad to finally have everything in one place now and will eventually move on to setting up the baby room (once we can live in it and find our things).
All I can ask is that the air conditioning doesn't go out anywhere I go... Not only is it over 100 most days now but my job requires me to get into a hot car most days in the afternoons... that won't be happening much longer if I have anything to say about it. I have been talking with a coworker who had a baby in the beginning of last September who is giving me advice on how to limit going out into the community and staying in more. I am willing to try anything and will do so this week in supervision! We'll see how it goes.
Comments and/or words of encouragement are welcome...
